Photography Lighting: Vital Techniques


Lighting plays a crucial role in photography. It is very effective in bringing a photograph to life and it can also generate effects, including spectacular shadows or silhouettes etc. There are different techniques that are used for Photography Lighting includes:

Hard and Soft Light

Hard lights produce well-defined, dark shadows and tend to originate from a single light source which can be used to create images with sharp contrasts and highlights, emphasizing shape and texture. It is also used to enhance the 3D effect and create dramatic effects to any image. On the contrary, soft light produces either soft light or either soft shadows or no shadows at all.

Artificial and Natural Light

Natural light play key role in photography even though is less controllable, and varies greatly depending on numerous conditions such as time of day, season, weather, geographical location, and so on. The challenges of using natural light are quite similar to those faced when shooting in artificial light. However, artificial light benefit you with easy controlling and manipulating light. Furthermore, these lights from different sources will yield different color heat signatures.

The choice of different types of light to use completely depends on the type of photography, the subject, and the desired effect. So, make the safest choice for beginners.
